A Message to Residents

The Parish Council would like to wish all residents a happy and enjoyable summer. As always, we are committed to maintaining and enhancing our village, and we would like to share an update on a number of projects, community initiatives, and activities taking place across Alvanley.

The Parish Council is made up entirely of local volunteers who give their time freely throughout the year to help support and improve our community. Councillors work on behalf of residents to address local issues, maintain village assets, and promote initiatives that benefit the parish. We are grateful for the support, cooperation, and feedback we receive from residents, all of which help make Alvanley a wonderful place to live.

Summer Planter Displays Completed

The Parish Council is delighted to report that The White Lion has completed the installation of the three summer floral planter displays. These colourful displays help enhance the appearance of the village and create a welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.

Our thanks go to everyone involved in helping keep Alvanley looking its best throughout the summer months. Please remember all watering is undertaken by volunteers, If you have a planter near you please help us to keep them watered during the hot dry weather.

Snowdrop Planting Initiative

The Parish Council is delighted to report that over 3,500 snowdrops have been planted on the grassed area opposite the Cricket Club.

This is part of a longer-term project to enhance the appearance and biodiversity of the village, and the Council intends to continue expanding the planting programme over the coming years.

The snowdrop bulbs have been generously donated by Thomaine Buckeridge of Pye Corner Farm, for which the Parish Council extends its sincere thanks.

To help protect this developing area and ensure the bulbs establish successfully, we kindly ask residents and visitors to refrain from parking on the grassed area.

We look forward to seeing this area become an increasingly attractive feature of the village each spring.

 Council Business Plan Approved

The Parish Council has now formally approved its Business Plan for 2027–2030.

The plan sets out the Council’s priorities and objectives for the coming years, ensuring that we continue to invest in the village, maintain local assets, and support initiatives that benefit residents and the wider community.

Finger Post Repairs Underway

Residents may have noticed the damaged finger posts at the corner of Manley Road.

We are pleased to confirm that repairs are now being carried out by Alvanley Agricultural Services. The Council would like to extend its sincere thanks to the company for assisting with this important restoration work.

 Commonside Crossroads Cheshire Railings

The Parish Council is aware of the damaged Cheshire railing fence at Commonside Crossroads.

We have been advised that repairs are scheduled to be carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council. Thank you to residents for your patience and understanding while this matter is progressed. Unfortunately, these types of repairs can take time to work through the necessary processes, but we appreciate your continued support and patience whilst arrangements are made.

Dog Fouling on Footpaths

The Parish Council has been made aware of an increasing amount of dog fouling on footpaths that cross local farmers’ land.

We would like to remind all dog owners of their responsibility to pick up after their dogs and dispose of waste appropriately.

To help address this issue, the Council is arranging for additional signage to be erected, reminding dog walkers to clean up after their pets.

We respectfully ask all residents and visitors to help keep our countryside, footpaths and farmland clean and enjoyable for everyone. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Hedge and Tree Maintenance Reminder

Please remember to keep your hedges, trees, and other vegetation cut back where they border roads, footpaths, and junctions. Overgrown vegetation can obstruct road warning signs, street signs, and visibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, creating potential safety hazards and reducing important sight lines.

By ensuring that hedges and trees are regularly maintained and do not encroach onto highways or footpaths, residents can help keep our roads safe, accessible, and welcoming for everyone in the community.

 Police Surgery at Alvanley Village Hall

Residents are invited to attend the next Police Surgery at Alvanley Village Hall on:

Thursday 7 August
7:00pm – 8:00pm

This is an excellent opportunity to meet local officers, discuss any concerns, raise community issues, and receive updates on local policing matters.

The Parish Council regularly attends these Police Surgeries and encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to engage directly with Cheshire Police.

We hope to see many residents there.

 New Parish Council Website Now Live

We are pleased to announce that the new Alvanley Parish Council website is now fully operational.

The website provides residents with easy access to:

• Council meeting information
• Agendas and minutes
• Community news and updates
• Contact details
• Parish information
• Emergency contact details

We encourage all residents to visit the website regularly to stay informed about local matters.

Christmas Lights Replacement Project

The Council is currently working with contractors to agree suitable replacements for the Christmas lights at the top of Primrose Lane.

Unfortunately, the lights did not operate as intended last year, and we are committed to ensuring an improved display for the forthcoming festive season. We will keep residents updated as plans progress.

The Parish Council would like to extend its sincere thanks to Enviro Tree Services Ltd, who have kindly offered, free of charge, to prune the trees at the top of Primrose Lane in September prior to the installation of the village Christmas lights. Their generosity and support are greatly appreciated.

Help Keep Our Village Tidy

We would like to ask all residents to help keep Alvanley looking its best. If you see any litter whilst out and about, please consider picking it up and placing it in a suitable bin. Small actions by many people can make a big difference to keeping our village clean and attractive for everyone.

Residents’ Survey Coming Soon

The Parish Council is preparing to launch a Residents’ Survey.

This survey will provide an important opportunity for residents to share their views on local services, community priorities, and future improvements for the village. We strongly encourage everyone to take part when the survey is launched.

Your feedback will help shape the Council’s future plans and ensure that our work reflects the needs of the community.

Annual Town and Parish Council Conference

Parish Councillors will be attending the Annual Town and Parish Council Conference in September, organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The conference provides an important opportunity for local councils to discuss key issues affecting communities across the borough. This year’s agenda is expected to include discussions on devolution, the future role of town and parish councils, and opportunities for enhanced partnership working between local authorities and community organisations.

The Parish Council looks forward to representing Alvanley, sharing local experiences, and bringing back information that may help support future projects and initiatives within the parish.

Working Towards the Local Council Award Scheme Bronze Award

The Parish Council is pleased to report that it is working towards achieving the Bronze Award under the Local Council Award Scheme.

This award recognises councils that demonstrate good governance, effective community engagement, sound financial management and a commitment to continuous improvement. Achieving Bronze status will help demonstrate the Council’s dedication to serving residents to a high standard and delivering best practice in local government.

We look forward to updating residents on our progress as we work towards this important milestone.

Remembrance Day Displays

We would like to apologise for the lack of poppies displayed around the village for Remembrance Day last year. To ensure a fitting tribute this year, the Parish Council has ordered 40 large poppies, which will be installed throughout the village alongside the life-size metal soldiers. The Church also have their own poppies that they will be displaying around the churchyard, and we will provide a Civic Wreath on behalf of the Parish Council and the residents.

A special thank you goes to Stephen and Peter Noden for their continued support in erecting and removing the soldiers each year, as well as for storing them safely between Remembrance events. Their efforts are very much appreciated.

Her dedication and care keep it looking beautiful throughout the year and are much appreciated by residents and visitors alike. Thank you for helping to make our village such an attractive and welcoming place.
